Holy Destructors (2025)

Swiss Film Premiere Followed by Light Refreshments

HOLY DESTRUCTORS delves deep into the invisible world of organisms that arise during the decomposition of organic matter. Biodestructors are microfungi that existed millions of years before humans and will likely outlive us. While we humans try to stop time and prevent the decay of matter, these biological decomposers remind us that everything must pass away in order to return in a new form.

In *Holy Destructors*, microscopic images of growing fungal cultures intersect with old paintings, devout believers, and mummified bishops—as well as people who battle against time by preserving it. With humor, visual ingenuity, and an open, philosophical spirit, Lithuanian filmmaker Aistė Žegulytė has created an extremely original film about microfungi, the passage of time, and human vanity—one that turns the microscope on both these mysterious life forms and ourselves.

After the movie, you're invited to enjoy a plate of risotto.
